MACHILIPATNAM: Murugesh Kumar Singh assumed office as Superintendent of Police of Krishna district here on Thursday. He took charge from N. Chandra Mouli, who was promoted as DIG and transferred to Hyderabad.

Addressing a press conference later, Mr. Singh said that plans were afoot to register cases against those who were indulging in anti-social activities in the district under the provisions of Preventive Detention Act. Necessary steps would be taken to reduce crime rate and maintain law and order more effectively. Besides enforcing Acts, special training would be given to the personnel, he said.

Mr. Singh underlined the need for creating awareness among people about policing. He felt that support from people would enhance confidence levels of the police. Referring to the number of accidents occurring on the national highways, Mr. Singh said that steps were being taken by the police and the district administration to check the number of accidents.
