The parallel road over bridge at the ever-busy Lakdi-ka-pul is complete. Yet, traffic snarls continue to happen and merely inaugurating the new facility is not going to solve the traffic congestions till certain bottlenecks are taken care of, traffic police argue.

While on one hand there is a major bottleneck right at the end of the newly constructed bridge towards the Masab Tank side in the form of a commercial complex, few more properties have to be demolished on the left splay to facilitate smooth flow of traffic coming from the Red Hills. “Constructing the bridge is just one phase in decongesting Lakdi-ka-pul. We need more engineering modifications to find a lasting solution,” Additional CP (Traffic) C.V. Anand said.

The traffic flow can be streamlined on the busy stretch only if the motorists going to Mehdipatnam use the newer bridge and those going towards the Nirankari Bhavan use the older one.

There is also the need to channelise the traffic from the new bridge towards the Masab Tank.

Then, they also have to work out a solution to provide a passage for motorists coming from the Ranga Reddy Collectorate and wanting to proceed towards Masab Tank.

One option is to allow the traffic to take a ‘U’ turn near Ravindra Bharati but there are doubts if the rotary can take the load. Segregating the traffic with road dividers is an option being considered, he said.

The traffic police top brass is holding consultation with the GHMC officials of the traffic and transportation wing to come out with practical solutions to reduce hassles for commuters.
