Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy released the logo of the 41st national women’s handball tournament to be held at the VRC College grounds in Nellore from Sunday, February 17 to 22. Balloons carrying the tournament logo were released as part of the tournament campaign programme.

This is the first time that the national women’s handball tournament is being held in Andhra Pradesh.

As many as 30 teams, including international players, confirmed their participation in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ramnarayana Reddy sought huge public patronage for the prestigious tournament being held here. He asked the officials to make special arrangements for the security and comfort of the arriving players.

The Nellore District Handball Association is organising the tournament in association with the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP), the AP State Handball Association, the District Sports Authority and the District Olympic Association.

In all, 600 players, trainers and managers are arriving for the tournament. Apart from 27 teams from different States, the Indian Railways and the defence department teams will also compete in the event.

C. Kondala Rao, secretary of the AP State Handball Association, said that the matches would be held from 4 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. every day during the six days. One or two matches would be held from 6.30 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. Special facilities were provided for the players at the VRC College.

The inauguration would be held on Sunday.

There will be a huge rally, camp fire and cultural programmes on February 19 and 20.
