The city is transforming into a hub of multi-specialty, healthcare services in the south coastal region as two more major projects are coming up here this year in addition to the existing several super-specialty hospitals and a private medical college.

While Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy already announced that the Government Medical College here would start functioning from this academic year itself, the Apollo Hospitals Group made it clear that their super-specialty hospital would be completed in a few months and it would be inaugurated anytime this year.

Already, there are major institutions like the Narayana Medical College and Hospital, Bollineni Super Specialty Hospital and DSR District Headquarters Hospital, which are catering to the healthcare needs of the people.

The Apollo Hospitals, Nellore, which is going to be a multi-specialty hospital, is a four-storeyed well-equipped building at Pinakini Nagar on the busy Muthukur Road. “This will have all the facilities just like the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai,” said B. Subbarao, deputy general manager (operations), Apollo Hospitals.

Mr. Subba Rao said that the Nellore unit would have 200 bed strength and all the super specialties like cardiology, ortho, paediatrics, gynaecology and other departments.

As part of the expansion activity, the Apollo Hospitals would open its information centres in mandal headquarters as well in the coming years.

The present Apollo Information Centre in Nellore has got a super specialty ambulance which is operational from Friday. It is like a ‘mini ICU on wheels’, as it is equipped with ventilator, cardiac monitoring system, immobilisation device, bandages, life-saving systems and so on.

The general Apollo ambulance contact number is 1066 while the Nellore-based ambulance will have another mobile number - 8331921066.

Once the Apollo Hospital is inaugurated, three more such super-specialty ambulances will be acquired here. Well-trained paramedics will be available to provide high quality first aid.
