Members of the Nellore Bar Association boycotted courts and held a dharna on the premises of the district courts complex on Friday, in support of their demand for the ongoing Samaikyandhra agitation.
The lawyers gathered at the main gate in large numbers and raised slogans against the alleged move of the Centre to decide in favour of the bifurcation without taking into consideration the feelings and aspirations of the people of the other regions in the State. They said that majority of people were in favour of a united Andhra Pradesh.
Later, they took out a rally to the District Collectorate, where they submitted a memorandum to the officials registering their demand for the State’s unified status.
The lawyers expressed concern that any further division of the State would lead to chaos and cause a serious damage to the interests of the people at large.
Lagging behind ‘T’
Nellore Bar Association secretary E.V. Rami Reddy, who led the protesters, said that many parts in the regions of Andhra and Rayalaseema were lagging behind when compared to Telangana region in terms of development, growth and employment generation. “It would be a lame excuse to divide the State citing reasons of development. Samaikyandhra movement will intensify if any decision is taken which is harmful to the State’s interests,” he said.
The Samaikyandhra movement has found tremendous support from all sections of people and this would be taken to a logical end, he added.
