ANANTAPUR: Vice Chancellor of Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) P. Kusuma Kumari on Tuesday stressed the need to alleviate economic disparities to bring about parity in the social structure. She asked the educational institutions to visit villages and create awareness among poor, particularly the ‘Dalits’ and other downtrodden classes.

Speaking at an interactive workshop on “Social Exclusion and Inclusive Police – Regional Dimensions” organised by the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) set up on the university campus earlier this year, she observed that the research work to be taken up by the Centre would hold good for the entire society. The Centre was useful to the society, particularly in a backward area like Anantapur district. A wide range of sociological issues could be taken up, debated, probed and taken to the government’s notice with possible solutions, she noted.

Asking the teachers and students of the centre to visit villages for conducting orientation programmes the Vice Chancellor suggested utilisation of services of non governmental organisations as a large number of such institutions were functioning in the district.

Speaking at the interactive session later Director of TTD’s SWETA, Bhumana S. Reddy was critical about the the lack of basic amenities like toilets for women in villages
