GUNTUR: National Cadet Corps 10 Andhra Girls Battalion, 25 Andhra Battalion and Mythri Human Welfare Organisation on Thursday took out a rally from Tellakula Jalayya Polisetty Somasundaram College to spread awareness on AIDS.

Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohan Das flagged off the rally and said that Andhra Pradesh youth, while aping the western culture, were losing their valuable lives by becoming a victim of AIDS at a time when the West was looking to Indian culture for solution to their problems.

Alarming situation

The situation was alarming as Andhra Pradesh, especially Guntur district, was in the second place in the country in the number of AIDS cases detected or number of people falling prey to the disease, Prof. Balamohan Das said.
