National Cricket Academy (NCA), manager, administration A.K. Jha on Wednesday, hailed the decision of Andhra Cricket Association to spruce up an exclusive women cricket academy at JKC College, at Guntur and said it was the first academy in the country set up to encourage women's cricket.
He was at the academy to supervise the arrangements that are being made for the ensuing NCA zonal women coaching camp from June 1 to 30.
“This is the first time ACA's women academy is hosting a coaching camp of both National Cricket Academy and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). I am hopeful that the trainees at the academy will utilise all the facilities and make a mark in the national and international level,” Mr. Jha said.
The following players were selected the South Zone camp based on their performance in the BCCI tournaments in 2010-2011.
S. Mounia Sai, U. Salma Banu, T. Shilpa Chandran (Andhra), Sunanda Yetrekar, Salma Divakar, Crista D' Souza (Goa), Rajeswari , Rakshita, Kirthika Hariharan, Spoorthi Parvatikar (Karnataka), Asha, Soniamol, K. Jincy George (Kerala), M. Shalini, Nidhi Torvi, Sowmya, Ananya Upendran, A. Sunitha, G. Sindhuja Reddy, Arundhati Reddy (Hyderabad), B. Shebani, P. Anusha, M. Vandhana Sree, Charulatha (Tamil Nadu).
Sneha Prasanna (Karnataka), E. Rensy (Kerala), C.V. Swetha*(TN), Deepika Anil (Karnataka), Nikita Malik (Goa) and S. Meghana (Andhra) are in the reserves list.
Usman Iqbal Ghani will be the lead coach and coaches Pushpanjali Banerjee, Devieka Sathe and Susheel Javle will assist him.
Pallavi Deshmukh is the physiotherapist, while Nishant Thakur and T. Veena will act as trainers. Ashish Tuli is the video analyst of the camp.
ACA women's cricket wing chairman J. Narendranath accompanied Mr. Jha and explained the facilities at the academy.
