HYDERABAD: Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen has promised to take up with the State Government the possibility of legislation to relax non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against surrendered naxalites.
At a videoconference with Commissioners and Superintendents of Police on Friday, Mr. Sen heard the piquant situation arising out of the need to execute the NBWs against naxalites who had surrendered and led a normal life.
The DGP wanted strict vigil on subordinate police officers in the light of one of them of the rank of an Inspector harassing a woman in Karimnagar district. They should be placed under suspension for such acts.
He asked the officers to observe restraint in booking cases under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as most of the complaints proved to be false. Mr. Sen said he would raise the Supreme Court's directive not to bar HIV/AIDS patients for the post of constable at the DGPs conference at New Delhi on November 22.
