The Adilabad police on Tuesday arrested five naxalite sympathisers and couriers and seized from their possession 34 live rounds of 8 mm gun, 4 electrical detonators and six gelatine sticks. The arrest came at the ferry point on Pranahita river near the AP-Manahrashtra border at Murliguda village of Bejjur mandal.
The arrested persons were identified as Elmolla Venkati (36) of Agarguda in Bejjur mandal, Talandi Ganapati (48) and Made Shankar (47) of Loha in Dahegaon mandal, A Ramesh Reddy (34) of Mangampalli in Vemanpalli mandal and A. Roshi Reddy (33) of Rajaram village in the same mandal. Bellampally Additional Superintendent of Police V. Bhaskar Rao said a police party led by Koutala Inspector B. Ravi made the arrests.
The accused were alighting a ferry under suspicious circumstances after crossing the river when they were arrested.
The accused had attended a meeting in the forests of Chimavati on the other side of the river which was also attended by Adilabad District Committee Secretary of Maoists, Mylarapu Adellu alias Bhaskar. He had handed them the live rounds to pass it on to extremists in Adilabad, Mr. Bhaskar Rao said giving the details of the operation.
