Nose wheel of the plane falls off while it was landing
A Dornier aircraft of the Indian Navy got stuck on the runway following a landing gear problem at the Visakhapatnam airport on Saturday.
The aircraft encountered the problem when it was about to land at around 11.45 a.m. With the aircraft stuck on the runway, the arrival of several flights was delayed, according to airport sources.
There was no problem with regard to departures though, the sources added.
The incident occurred a while after Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy left for Rajam in Srikakulam district after making a transit halt at the airport.
“The nose wheel of the aircraft had fallen off while landing. It is being replaced and the runway is expected to be cleared by evening.
Departures from the airport haven't been affected while incoming flights might be delayed,” said an official of the Indian Navy. He said no one was injured in the incident and there was no damage to the aircraft.
