Member of Legislative Council, K.S Lakshmana Rao on Saturday said that the district should be named after legendary poet Gurram Jashuva.
Speaking at the 119th birth anniversary celebrations of one of the most celebrated sons of the soil, Mr. Rao bemoaned that the district which had given birth to the poet has lacked a centre in his name and demanded that a centre for Jashuva studies be set up immediately so that students and research scholars would pursue research on the works of Jashuva.
District Collector S. Suresh Kumar promised to look into the points made by Mr. Rao and lauded the role of the poet in bringing to light the many social evils prevailing at the time.
Earlier, the MLC and the Collector garlanded the statue of Jashuva at Nagarampalem.
The Collector also inaugurated a book, ``Jashuva Gunde Chappullu,’’ (The heart beat of Jashua)
