GUNTUR: The Guntur Division of South Central Railway, which has a beautiful colony at Nallapadu is bound on all sides by the railway tracks and any one, who visited the colony, had to cross two railway crossings.
This predicament has been overcome with the construction of an road underpass at Level Crossing No.3 on the Guntur-Nadikudi Railway line in a record time of 24 hours and the Sabari Express was allowed on the portion of the track in the evening after the work was completed.
Guntur Railway Divisional Manager Mohammed Akhtar, who will get relieved on Tuesday and proceeding to Bhubaneswar to take up posting in East Coast Railway, said four pre-fabricated concrete boxes were placed on a span of 5 mts so that two vehicles could simultaneously pass through the vent.
Two heavy duty special cranes of 120 tonnes were brought from Secunderabad to carryout the work as fast as possible and give least inconvenience to passengers. Only one train Janmabhumi Express was diverted via Kazipet and remaining all trains ran on schedule despite a major work taken up.
The underpass will have a clear vent of 2.5 meters in height and about 4 meters in width, which will not allow heavy vehicles, but all normal vehicles can pass without hitch.
New Divisional Railway Manager Anand Mathur will assume office on Tuesday.
