Alleges devious means being adopted for local body polls

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam party presidentN. Chandrababu Naidu has made an appeal to the people across the State to defeat Congress and its undemocratic policies and the devious means it has adopted to capture power in elections to local bodies.

In a statement on eve of the first phase of panchayat raj elections, Mr. Naidu asked voters to use the occasion to teach a lesson to Congress and support the "save democracy" struggle launched by the TDP against a "draconian regime".

He accused the Congress of unleashing a reign of terror especially at Pulivendula in Kadapa, targeting TDP candidates with the sole objective of winning panchayat raj elections by hook or crook. "A Bihar- like situation prevails in Pulivendula where no other party can contest. A section of policemen and unsocial elements were used to browbeat political opponents and all those who dared to contest".
