A lot of significance is being attached to the election tour of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu in Adilabad district on Wednesday.

He is supposed to boost the morale of his beleaguered and depleted rank and file in some of the constituencies which were the party’s strongholds earlier .

His public meeting at Ichoda mandal headquarter in Boath (ST) Assembly constituency assumes greater importance in that the party’s district unit president and sitting legislator G. Nagesh has defected to Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) along with a large chunk of cadres.

He is now contesting as a TRS candidate for Adilabad Lok Sabha seat.

The TDP has held the seat in all elections since 1985, the exception being the win of TRS candidate Soyam Bapu Rao in 2004 who ironically is in fray as the TDP nominee. Mr. Nagesh has won from Boath thrice while his father G. Rama Rao had won it twice for the TDP.

Mr. Naidu will also be addressing an election meeting at Kadem in Khanapur (ST) Assembly constituency where the party’s candidate is none other than Ritish Rathod, son of Adilabad (ST) MP Ramesh Rathod.

The TDP president will also address meetings at Kagaznagar in Sirpur Assembly constituency, Bellampally (SC) and Asifabad (ST) constituencies which have also seen erosion in party ranks.
