‘Mee Kosam has a purpose’

GUNTUR: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that the Congress has been trying to wrest as many seats as possible in the by-elections in Telangana by trading with leaders of various Opposition parties. The former chief minister, who has been touring the district for the past three days as part of ‘Mee Kosam’ programme, told reporters at Phirangipuram on Tuesday that the Congress was ready to spend Rs. 10 crores to 20 crores in each Assembly segment and efforts were on to woo as many leaders as possible into its fold.

“The Congress will realise that these sorts of cheap gimmicks will never fetch votes and win elections. The people of the State will teach a befitting lesson to the Congress,” he said.

Explaining the motives of the arduous tour in the sweltering heat, Mr. Naidu explained that the tour had been taken out with a purpose of studying the changing socio and economic conditions in society and getting to know the ground realities. He also said he had been enriched with the direct interaction with all sections of the society and getting to know of their problems.

Economic policy

Reiterating that the Central and the State Governments have failed to ensure equitable distribution of wealth generated during the post-reforms period, he said the Telugu Desam Party had drafted an alternate economic policy that would ensure fair distribution of resources to all sections of society. When queried further, he said many educational opportunities which have been created during the TDP’s government had indirectly created wealth, as those working abroad have been sending money regularly.

He then launched a scathing attack on the State Government and said Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had thrown all democratic conventions to the wind by investing in Brahmani Steels, Raghuram Cements and Real Estate ventures.
