HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has warned the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) against targeting party leaders and their properties, saying such actions would not be tolerated anymore.

Addressing a media conference, Mr. Naidu blamed Telangana Rashtra Samiti largely for the attack on senior party MLA, Nagam Janardhan Reddy, and others at Osmania University and houses and business establishments of the party leaders, M. A. Saleem, P. Chandrasekhar, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and K. Rammohan Rao in and around Hyderabad.

There was involvement of Bharatiya Janata Party too to some extent, he said.

Terming these attacks as deliberate to create a scare in TDP ranks and insult leaders, he reminded TRS that it had no cadre compared to what his party had. The performance of TRS in Assembly elections was poor while it was scared of facing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.

Mr. Naidu said these violent attacks left everyone wondering if there was a government in place in the State and if yes, what was it doing. The party’s suspicion over the TRS was not baseless.

A middle-aged person who was arrested for the attack on Dr. Janardhan Reddy in Osmania University campus had claimed that he resorted to the attack as he made comments against TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao. The attack on Dr. Reddy was shameful to everyone having faith in democracy and a civilised society, he said. It came at a time when the TDP was the first to condemn police lathicharge on students and take up the issue of withdrawal of cases booked against them with Chief Minister K. Rosaiah.

It was a sad day in his 30- year-old political career as well as that of the TDP.

Responding to a question on the situation in the State, the TDP president said having created the mess, it was for the Congress to resolve it. Meanwhile, party leaders and workers staged a ‘dharna’ at Ambedkar statue in protest against the attack. They raised slogans against the TRS and Congress.
