Mystery shrouded the death of a two-year-old girl, who tested HIV positive, at a private nursing home on Thursday. Kothapet police charged the private nursing home with negligence leading to death.
The girl was admitted to a private nursing home on February 28 with complaints of pneumonia. Medical tests later proved that she was infected with HIV positive. The girl’s father lodged a complaint with the Kothapet police against the hospital alleging that his daughter could have been infected with the HIV positive blood during transfusion.The hospital staff were baffled when results of medical tests conducted for the blood samples of the girl’s parents proved negative. Meanwhile, the girl was shifted to Nilofour Hospital in Hyderabad where she was given anti-retroviral treatment. Later, the girl was discharged by doctors stating that her resistance was improving. An expert team from Department of Medical and Health from Hyderabad visited Guntur and collected reports.
