The Minorities Welfare department performed mass marriages for Muslim youth in the city on Thursday.
The government presented ‘nallapusalu golusu’, garments, furniture and kitchen material, all worth about Rs. 20,000 to each couple. The officials hosted lunch for 50 members from each couple.
The Minorities Welfare department performed 292 marriages in Krishna district, said Ghousia Begum, district welfare officer of the department. MLAs Malladi Vishnuvardhan and Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao and other officials attended the programme and blessed the new couples. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vishnuvardhan said to improve the life standards of minorities the government has introduced several schemes for Muslims and asked the youth to make use of the welfare schemes.
Steps were being taken to protect Masjids and necessary funds are being allocated for protecting the properties, said Mr. Srinivasa Rao.
At a separate programme, the MLA inaugurated the computer training for Muslim youth, being organised by District Minorities Finance Corporation and CMC Limited, under Rajiv Yuva Kiranayulu.
