Music lovers were treated to some melodious songs of Ghantasala at the C.V.N.Reading room open air theatre here on Wednesday as the Ghantasala National Arts Academy held a music festival here to create a record of sorts.

‘We have brought together some 200 singers from different parts of the state to sing continuously for 108 days to find a place in the Guinness book of world records,’ said its Chairman T.Vijaykanth. The music festival would conclude on August 28, he added.

Seasoned singers including All India Radio Programme Officer Chandra Teja and SC Corporation Executive Director M.Raju took turns to render the select songs of Ghantasala. They paid musical tribute to the legendary singer and music composer after State Bank of India Regional Manager K.S.R. Murthy joined by Prakasam district Writers Association President B.Hanuma Reddy, inaugurated the musical nite.

‘We are fortunate to work on the mission to etch the name of the greatest musician in the record books’, said singer Padmavathi from Hyderabad. Helin kumari from Guntur, Harikrishna from Vijayawada, Stalin Babu from Bapatla, Razool from Nandigama were among those who regaled the audience.

While youths got a rare opportunity to hear the golden melodies, the old timers turned nostalgic as the "Melody King" with his majestic voice continues to hold sway over lakhs of music lovers cutting across generations.
