Representatives from 51 civic bodies converge at Tirupati for meeting

Commissioners and officials from 51 municipalities across seven districts --Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool (Anantapur region), Nellore, Guntur, and Prakasam (Guntur region) converged at Tirupati on Friday for the regional-level meeting to fix the Service Level Benchmarks (SLBs).

The meeting was aimed at fixing targets for the year 2011-12 based on the municipalities' performance vis-à-vis sewer lines, water supply, storm water drains and solid waste management during the year 2010-11, to be published in the gazette.

K. Bhaskar, Project Director, Andhra Pradesh Municipal Development Project and also the Managing Director of Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) presided over the meeting.

Appeal

The Project Director appealed to the Municipal Commissioners to present a realistic picture of their civic bodies and not to project unfeasible targets.

He underscored the need for the civic bodies to evaluate the quality of the services rendered to their denizens for enhanced performance.

Participants

Regional Directors of Guntur and Anantapur, superintending engineers and Municipal Commissioners took part in the regional-level meeting.
