VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Employees’ Union (VMCEU), affiliated to All India Trade Union Council (AITUC), has stated that it will launch agitation to bring pressure on the Government to resolve its genuine problems.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, VMCEU honorary president P. Gowtham Reddy said that the agitation would begin with garlanding of Gandhi statues in the city on October 2 and continue with submission of memoranda to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao on October 12.

Mr. Gowtham Reddy said that the NMR (Non-Muster Rolls) employees, who completed five years of service should be regularised. Similarly, services of full-time and part-time contingency workers should also be regularised following G.O. 112.

Mr. Gowtham Reddy said that sanitary workers should be given soaps, towels, masks, gloves and coconut oil. He also wanted the corporation to do away with the recording of attendance four times a day through Iris system.

Union president J. James and general secretary A. Ranganayakulu were also present.
