The Mumbai police are thinking about setting up a police post near Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani’s Altamount road house as he received a threat mail two months ago. The proposal has been forwarded to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

“We have received the proposal from his office. However, for setting up a police post necessary permissions from the municipal corporation have to be acquired. His office is currently in the process to get those necessary permissions,”Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Nisar Tamboli told The Hindu .

On February 24, an unidentified person delivered a handwritten letter to the RIL’s corporate office at Nariman Point in South Mumbai. The author threatened Mr. Ambani for his proximity to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his growing investment in the State, and demanded that an alleged Indian Mujahideen operative called Danish be released.

Even though police protection has already been provided at Mr. Ambani’s 27-storey residence, called Antilia, there is no place to house the policemen. A police post would provide basic amenities like shelter and washroom to the policemen.
