A multi-layer security cover will be provided to the polling stations situated in hypersensitive and extremism affected villages during the gram panchayat polls slated to be held in two separate phases on July 27 and 31 respectively in the district. A total of 712 gram panchayats in the district will go to the polls in the two phases. Of these, a total of 157 gram panchayats have been identified as hypersensitive, 213 as sensitive and 90 as extremism affected panchayats in Khammam, Kothagudem, Palvancha and Bhadrachalam divisions.
Briefing media persons on the poll arrangements along with Superintendent of Police A.V. Ranganath here on Wednesday, Collector I. Srinivas Sri Naresh said a total of 14,42,250 voters would exercise their franchise in the panchayat polls scheduled to be held on July 27 and 31 in the district. As many as 8,060 polling stations will be set up in the four divisions. A total of 10,500 polling staff will be deployed in the two phases of panchayat elections. Arrangements have been made to webcast polling in a total of 214 sensitive polling booths. The election process will be video graphed in a total of 289 sensitive, hypersensitive and extremism affected polling booths.
This apart, the micro-observers will keep a close watch on the election process to ensure free and fair polls. Mr. Ranganath said a total of 3,500 personnel will be deployed as per a multi-layer security strategy to oversee security arrangements.A total of 12 platoons of central paramilitary forces will be deputed for security arrangements. The services of forest guards and Singareni security personnel will also be utilised for the smooth conduct of the polls. He listed out the steps initiated by the police in association with other allied departments to check violations of code of conduct.
