'Legal status to categorisation fo SCs by June-July will not help Madigas'

HYDERABAD: The Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti led by Krupakar Madiga, has faulted Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's assurance that steps would be taken by June-July on SC categorisation saying it would not benefit the Madiga community.

Seats to be lost

In a statement here on Saturday, he said if benefits were to accrue to the community in the ensuing academic year legal status should be provided to SC categorisation either in February or March session of Parliament.

If it was postponed, 200 medical seats and a large number of seats in educational institutions would be lost next year too.

Meanwhile, Mala Mahanadu, which is opposing categorisation, on Saturday organised its cadre at the district, mandal and division level and submitted memoranda to officials.

Effigy burnt

Activists set fire to the effigy of Union Minister Meira Kumar to protest against her alleged anti-Dalit measures.

J. Prabhakar Rao, Mala Mahanadu president, in a letter to Chief Minister appealed to Government to implement eight demands including enforcing Supreme Court ruling on SC categorisation.
