In an embarrassing situation for the State government, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar expressed his ire against erratic power supply and unofficial power cuts in Karimnagar district by the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL) authorities.

Following reports about the erratic power supply in the district, the MP rushed to the NPDCL office on Saturday and grilled the SE over the unofficial power cuts. Alleging that there were disparities in the supply of power to the Telangana and Andhra regions, he said that the farmers of the Telangana region totally relied on pump sets for agriculture unlike Andhra region and demanded assured power supply to farmers and also domestic sectors.

Expressing concern over unofficial power cuts to the domestic sector, the MP threatened to launch agitations if the authorities failed to disclose the detailed timings of power cuts to all sectors in the district.

NPDCL SE Narayana convened a press meeting in the evening and informed that there was huge demand for power and the supply was very less in the district. “These power cuts are not in not our hands and we are not getting power from the distribution companies, which is why there are unofficial power cuts in the district,” he said.

“We are also not aware of when the power will come and go,” he noted. He also said that they would announce the new schedule of power cuts to all sectors in a day or two after consulting the higher-ups.
