The Communist Party of India has strongly criticised the government for contemplating increasing the APSRTC bus ticket charges.
‘Burden on people’
In a press release, former CPI MLA and executive member of the party’s AP State Council K. Subba Raju pointed out that increasing the bus ticket charges was not the only solution or the way out to bring the corporation out of the red. By doing so, they would be taxing the general public who were already burdened by a number of other taxes and charges, he noted.
According to him, the government can think of abolishing or reducing the toll taxes for public transport organisations or reduce the tax on petrol and diesel for the corporation. By taking such measures, the government can bail the corporation out of the red, he said.
