Cards, perfumes, crockery sets and cookery books are the popular choice for gifts

VISAKHAPATNAM: Families came together to celebrate Mother’s Day in different ways on Sunday.

Shops were teeming with Mother’s Day greeting cards and gifts to honour the occasion.

At many shops, fathers came along with their children to buy the ‘surprise’ gift for mothers. Cards, perfumes, crockery sets and cookery books were the popular choices.

Bakery shops also saw good sales of Mother’s Day special cakes. Many preferred to give their mothers a break from cooking and took her out for dinner.

Hotels in the city dished out special menu for the occasion.

Hotel Green Park is celebrated Mother’s Day with a host of mouth-watering dishes.

Musical concert

The Mother’s Day special Kebabs and Biryani fest had chaat counters, veg and non-veg kebabs, paneer malai tikka, tandoori aloo, murgh malai kebab, tandoori murgh tikka and in the main course mutton and chicken biryani, veg biryani, shahi paneer, dal makhni, mirchi ka salan, delightful salads, chef special soups and a whole range of desserts and ice-creams. Families enjoyed the evening with a variety of fun games and many won surprise gifts too. A musical concert was organised by SMB Event Management at Kalabharati auditorium on Saturday in connection with Mother’s Day celebration. Sadguru Sivananda Murty, former MP M.V.V.S. Murthy and others spoke on importance of women. Disciples of A.B. Balakondala Rao, director of Kuchipudi Kalakendram presented a dance. Later, eight women were felicitated.
