Prasanna Kumar Mohanty, a senior IAS officer of the 1979 batch, now serving as Chief Commissioner Land Administration (CCLA) assumed charge as the new Chief Secretary of the State here on Tuesday.
He replaces Minnie Mathew, who retired on superannuation. Mr. Mohanty himself has 10 months to go before retirement. I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, who also belongs to the same batch of IAS, will be the new CCLA.
Mr. Mohanty took over the reigns of the administration shortly after orders were issued appointing him as Chief Secretary, ending a little bit of uncertainty as Mr. Krishna Rao was also a contender for the post. Ms. Mathew and him jointly addressed the Secretariat staff and IAS officers before she was seen off by top officials.
Mr. Mohanty quoted Gurajada Appa Rao’s famous line that a nation does not mean just its soil but also its people. He said that people would be his concern. He thanked Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy for giving him an opportunity to serve Andhra Pradesh, which was dear to him.
Mr. Reddy, who is electioneering in Karnataka, greeted him over the telephone.
