Pulla Padmavathi found distributing saris on YSR's 61st birth anniversary
The Hanamkonda police registered a case of election code violation against MLC Pulla Padmavathi of the Congress for distributing sarees to people here on Thursday.
At a function to commemorate the 61st birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Balasamudram here on Thursday, Ms. Padmavathi distributed sarees to the poor. The police registered a suo motu case under Sections 188 and 171 (b) dealing with coercion.
As the Warangal west Assembly seat is slated to go to the bypolls on July 27, the election code is in operation all over the district.
Complaint to Collector
TRS leaders Gudimalla Ravi Kumar and others complained to the District Collector N Sridhar and Superintendent of Police, Shah Nawaz Qasim, demanding the immediate arrest of Ms. Padmavathi.
“Our leader Vijayashanthi spoke to the party cadres inside four walls, but the authorities arrested her charging her with violation of the election code. The same rule should apply to Ms Pulla Padmavathi as well,” they maintained.
In Mahabubabad, local MLA M Kavitha distributed notebooks to schoolchildren, while in Parkal, MLA K. Surekha distributed fruits and eggs to the poor commemorating the former Chief Minister's birth anniversary. It was learnt that election officials also served notices on Ms. Padmavathi.
