CPI (M) aspirants for Rayalaseema West Graduates constituency Geyanand and Teachers constituency Beeram Subba Reddy will address a public meeting on “Legislative bodies – public representatives” in SKR and SKR Government Degree College for Women here on January 18 evening and ophthalmologist S. Raja Vengal Reddy will preside over.
The quality of debates in legislative bodies was falling and staging walk-outs, adjournment of the House, suspension of members and marshals sending them out became the order of the day, Jana Vignana Vedika district president B. Rajasekhar Rahul, United Teachers Federation general secretary B. Lakshmi Raja, CITU district president A. Raghunatha Reddy and SFI district secretary N. Sivaram told newsmen here.
The number of millionaires getting elected to Lok Sabha increased from 154 in 2004 to 300 in 2009, they said and added that the Rajya Sabha, Legislative Assemblies and Councils were no exception. Referring to the functioning of Karnataka Assembly, they lamented that 78 MLAs failed to pose any question in the 46-day session and the situation in Andhra Pradesh Legislative was not different.
The public meeting would focus on the steps needed for better functioning of legislative bodies and measures needed to elect proper public representatives.
