VISAKHAPATNAM: Expressing deep anguish at not allotting funds in the budget for the prestigious Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences here, TDP MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu on Thursday appealed to the Chief Minister to immediately release required funds and see that the objectives of the project were realised.

The legislator recalled how VIMS was launched by the then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy amidst lot of fanfare way back in 2006. This 1,130-bedded hospital with an estimated cost of Rs.250 crores is expected to cater to the medical needs of three north coastal districts besides East Godavari and West Godavari as also people from the neighbouring States of Orissa and Chattishgarh. Considerable research work was also proposed to be undertaken at the VIMS. But, till date only Rs.34.14 crores had been received.
