MLA Rowthu Suryaprakasa Rao has asked youth to patronise libraries as they are centres of learning.

Speaking as chief guest at the 45th National Library Week celebrations organised by Sri Gowthami Regional Library here on Wednesday, Mr. Suryaprakasa Rao said youth preparing for competitive examinations should use regional libraries to the hilt.

Stating that IT revolution had ushered in revolutionary changes in the way the libraries functioned, he said Internet, digitisation of archives, and maintenance of huge database were now part of these centres of learning.

Philanthropist Tummidi Ramkumar said libraries were part of our culture and it was the responsibility of society to protect them.

Helping hand

He said the business community was always ready to extend a helping hand in restoring libraries.

Gazetted librarian Venneti Suryanarayana Murthy presented an annual report.

At the celebrations organised at the Central Prison Library, S. Teki, Principal, Adikavi Nannaya University College of Arts and Commerce, said that libraries were temples of enlightenment.

“One should regularly visit libraries to be abreast with emerging issues,” he said.

Dr. Ambedkar Open University centre organised the programme.
