Railways fail to give permission for laying of water pipelines

Kakinada: Local Congress MLA Mutha Gopalakrishna has threatened to paralyse goods traffic that passes through Kakinada if the Railways fail to accord permission for laying water pipelines at three stretches across the Samalkot - Kakinada railway line by April 23.

He also declared that Union Minister of State for Defence Mallipudi Mangapathi Pallamraju would be gheraoed during his visit here on April 23, for his complacency in attending to the local problems.

Besides, he said the issue would be taken to the notice of the Prime Minister and the Minister for Railways demanding a detailed enquiry on the negligence of the Railway authorities in dealing with the drinking water problem.

In a letter addressed to the Divisional Railway Manager, Vijayawada, released to the press here on Thursday, the MLA said that phase two of the city drinking water augmentation scheme taken up three years ago, at a cost of Rs. 19 crores, with the help of the State and Central Governments had been completed to the extent of 95 per cent and only the portion of work that require laying of pipelines across the Railway line at three stretches is remaining, that too for want of Railways clearance.
