Nearly a day after a 19-year-old girl student went missing in Vijayawada, her body was found in an abandoned car by the Tenali police.
Police took into custody the driver of the car, Ramakrishna Reddy alias Paul, and charged him with murder.
The body of Sushmapriya, was found wrapped in a sheet of paper in the rear seat of the car abandoned near the RoB late on Tuesday night, after the driver spilled the beans.
The accused, who drives the car owned by the girl’s father Bandaru Srinivasa Rao, is already married. On Monday evening, he picked up the girl from her college and spent a day in and around Vijayawada. Ramakrishna Reddy told police he wanted to get rid of Priya as she was exerting pressure on him to marry her. He gave her a drink laced with pesticide in Vijayawada and stuffed pieces of cloth in the mouth.
He then relieved her of ornaments and drove to Tenali, where he thought he could sell the ornaments and dispose of the body.
The Vijayawada police, who launched a hunt to trace the girl, questioned the wife of the accused. A telephone call made from her mobile helped the police zero in on him in Tenali.
The girl’s parents alleged that Ramakrishna Reddy wanted to force their daughter into flesh trade and demanded that police book cases against his wife too.
