Redya Naik had referred to Adilabad's backwardness
ADILABAD: Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) members and Mandal Parishad Presidents (MPP) of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Congress on Tuesday indulged in jostling during a discussion on Jatipita Engineering College being shifted to Hyderabad from Adilabad at the Utnoor Integrated Tribal Development Agency's governing body meeting (ITDA). TDP members were protesting against the remark made by Minister D.S. Redya Naik while the issue was being debated.
The Social Welfare Minister and district in-charge had said the college could not have functioned in an area of hutments while referring to Adilabad's backwardness. TDP members got agitated over this remark and trooped near the dais seeking an apology from him.
Congress members who intervened, were pushed aside by the TDP members who outnumbered the former. The police had to intervene and restore decorum.
Earlier, TDP ZPTC members and MPPs had demanded passing of resolutions on setting up of IIT at Basar, reopening of the closed RTC depot at Utnoor and continuation of the engineering college at Adilabad.
Mr. Redya Naik said 11 more Kasturba schools had been sanctioned in the district.
