Fast will continue, says TRS chief Chandrasekhar Rao

KHAMMAM: Minister for Cooperation Ramreddy Venkata Reddy, who came here as the emissary of the Government to initiate a dialogue with the fasting TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao, apparently drew a blank in his mission on Wednesday.

He drove straight to the district headquarters hospital and closeted with him for about 20 minutes.

The Minister had made an appeal to Mr. Rao to give up the fast as the Congress leadership was not against his demand for separate Telangana and a decision would be taken by the AICC president Sonia Gandhi at right time. Expressing concern about his deteriorating health condition, he enquired about the treatment extended in the hospital. Turning down the Minister’s appeal, the TRS chief wanted the government to get him shifted immediately from Khammam to Hyderabad. He made it clear to the Minister that the fast would continue until the government gave a categorical assurance on the statehood for Telangana. Later talking to media persons, the Minister said that the government would extend the best available medical facilities to the TRS chief. His condition was stable, he added.
