Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju on Saturday gave an assurance to the representatives of the Cocanada Chamber of Commerce that he would represent the issue of the renovation of anchorage port to the Ministries and departments concerned. A delegation from the Chamber headed by its chairman Dantu Surya Rao met the Minister at his camp office here.

They submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention into the development works pertaining to the age old port.

They brought the issue of the recent strike by the lorry owners demanding re-carpeting of the roads leading to the port to the notice of the Minister.

They stressed the need for immediate focus on development of infrastructure and improving facilities, in the wake of a steady increase in exports from the port.

They said though the port had earned revenue to the tune of Rs. 24 crore last year, there was no allocation of funds for its development.

Mr. Pallam Raju assured the delegation that he would use his good offices to develop the port further, besides addressing the immediate problems.
