HYDERABAD: School Education Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha has assured a delegation of women’s organisations that he would direct officials to withdraw sex education from schools.

In a statement, Ch. Prameela, State Secretary of the All India Mahila Samskrutika Sangham (AIMSS) and P. Teja, secretary of the city unit of the All India Democratic Organisation said, the Minister gave this assurance when a delegation of the two organisations met him on Wednesday. He told them that a meeting of officials of the department would be convened on August 23.

They claimed that the Minister agreed that the study material meant to teach the students life skills education contained many objectionable portions and that teachers were not willing to teach the same. Ms. Prameela told the Minister that in the name of prevention of AIDS, Government departments were implementing adolescent education programmes though there was no logical connection between spread of AIDS and sex education.
