VISAKHAPATNAM: Defence Minister A.K. Antony has assured Visakhapatnam MP N. Janardhana Reddy that decision on allowing night landing operations at Visakhapatnam airport would be taken at the earliest by deploying additional manpower as the navy’s INS Dega controls the airport and the air traffic control.

Mr. Janardhana Reddy, who spoke to Mr. Antony on the issue, pointed out that necessary facilities for night operation like runway lights, approach lights, apron flood lights and obstruction lights on the top of the hills around Vizag airfield have been created, tested and they are ready for use. He said night landing facilities would enable international air carriers to begin their flights to Vizag. The MP told the Minister that most of the business community wanted to reach the city in the morning and return late in the evening. Besides some of the regional airlines had also applied for night parking at Vizag airport.
