Minister for Civil Supplies D. Sridhar Babu has said that the Congress government is striving to do a balancing act between the demand for resources from a growing population and the judicious use of these resources.
“Whether it is imposing a cap on subsidised LPG cylinders to six, or bringing in FDI into retail market or cash transfer scheme, all are aimed at utilising the valuable resources carefully and check pilferages,” Mr. Sridhar Babu said.
Speaking at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Institution of Engineers (India), Andhra Pradesh State Centre, he was responding to the concern raised by some speakers about over-exploitation of resources and use of technology that was detrimental to the environment.
He invited suggestions from the IEI on use of low cost technologies and called for convergence of disciplines to provide effective solutions to the challenges society was facing. Dr. E.A.S.Sarma, former Union Energy Secretary, said technological progress should respect laws of nature.
