Minister for Minor Irrigation T.G. Venkatesh laid the foundation for a lift irrigation scheme at E. Tandrapadi and Irrigation Regional Training centre at Panchalingala near here on Sunday. He also inaugurated additional classrooms constructed at a cost of Rs. 20.6 lakh and Kasturba School constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.25 crore.
Kodumur MLA Muralikrishna was also present. Addressing the meetings, Mr. Venkatesh said a huge package was rolled out for the development of Panchalingala, E. Tandrapadu and Gondiparla.
He said a check-dam was being constructed across Tungabhadra to solve the drinking water problem for Kurnool city and other villages. He claimed that the charges that polluted water would flow into the reservoir or the structure would trigger flooding were unfounded.
He asked the public to educate the leaders who spoke against the construction of the reservoir. He said a modern jail was being constructed at Panchalingala and the wagon workshop by the railways which would trigger development activity in the zone.
Irrigation Chief Engineer Madhusudan Rao, SE Sudhakar, Project Director of Rajiv Vidhya Mission Padma Kumari, DEO Nageswara Rao and others were present.
