Rajahmundry: ‘Vanaprastha’, an old-age home built by the Rajahmundry Women Committee (RWC) at Dosakayalapalli in Korukonda mandal, was inaugurated by Minister for Social Welfare Pilli Subashchandra Bose on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, thanks to the advent of nuclear families, neglect of parents by children became the order of the day. Decrying the turn of events, he recalled how in some cases parents were approaching courts seeking protection.
Hoping that women empowerment and literacy would offer solution to the problem, the Minister urged people with good financial background to come to the rescue of neglected aged persons.
MLA R. Suryaprakasha Rao said that youngsters should love and treat the aged persons with affection.

Bank branch opened
Director of Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) KBR Naidu inaugurated the bank’s new branch here near Kumari Talkies on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said the bank had taken the lead in disbursing loans to agriculture sector on a large scale and was ready to offer loans to the dairy, fisheries and rice mills.
He said that the bank would shortly be opening a new branch at Amalapuram to assist farmers of the Konaseema area.
He also disbursed loans worth Rs.50 lakhs to small and marginal farmers. OBC General Manager J.M.A. David, Manager K. Subba Rao, customers, farmers and others participated in the function.
