Dr. Seela Venkata Ramana Rao, Assistant Director, Mines and Geology, Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam district, was caught red-handed by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials at his residence at Srinagar, Gajuwaka on Thursday while taking a bribe of Rs.20,000 from the complainant for showing official favour.

According to a press release from ACB Director-General, the official took the bribe amount for showing official favour of processing and forwarding the application of the complainant's relative to the deputy director, Mines and Geology for approval and issue of appropriate orders for execution of quarry lease.

The tainted amount was recovered from the floor of the balcony of the official's residence after he threw down the currency on seeing the trap party. The fingers of Dr. Venkata Ramana Rao and the floor from where the currency was recovered yielded positive results.

He was being arrested and will be produced before the Court for Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases, Visakhaptanam.

Accountant held

In another case, M. Ravi, senior accountant, office of the deputy director, district treasury, Machilipatnam, Krishna district on Wednesday was arrested after he demanded and accepted an amount Rs.1,500 as bribe from the complainant for showing official favour of processing and forwarding pensions papers.

Caught red-handed

In a third case, P.Swaminadhan, additional revenue inspector. Renigunta, Chittoor was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs.1,500 from the complainant on Wednesday for doing an official favour for processing ‘widow certificate' of his sister. The accused officer was arrested after the bribe amount was recovered from him.
