The rice millers' associations in the State on Sunday agreed to start purchasing paddy from farmers directly from Monday. They also assured the government to mill the paddy procured by Central and State Government agencies.
In a meeting with Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Jupally Krishna Rao representatives of the two associations – AP Rice Millers' Association and AP Rice Industries Association – were convinced by the assurances given by the former on their demands.
The associations have decided to give a month's time to the Government to resolve their demands, mostly in the purview of the Centre, or else they would take up the path of agitation again.
The demands of millers included hike in charges for customised milling, reduction in the price of gunny, hike in transportation charges, lifting ban on export of surplus fine rice among others.
The minister was said to have explained to the millers that most of their problems were in the purview of the Centre and the State Government was pursuing the issue.
