Precast segments to be laid along Nagole-Mettuguda stretch
The L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) is preparing to start launching the precast segments on the piers built to form the viaduct over which the rail line will be laid in the next fortnight or so.
The work will begin on the stage one site, Nagole to Mettuguda, the 8 km stretch, which is slated to be the first operational line in two years. A launch girder is being currently simulated at the 72-acre casting yard in Uppal.
The entire girder will then be dismantled and transported to the site before being put together again atop the piers. The ready made segments each with unique specifications and numbered accordingly at the casting yard will also be moved to the site by low bed trailers during nights, said metro rail officials.
About 760 segments sufficient to cover 2 km of viaduct are stacked at the casting yard with 10 being made each day. One-by-one they will be moved and ‘launched’ from the girder from top, strung and glued together with steel cables.
A few parts of the launch girder have already been placed at the pier-level near Uppal. Another launch girder too will be manufactured at the site, simulated and dismantled before being taken to another site, said L&TMRH project director M.P. Naidu, during a recent visit.
The concessionaire intends to make a dozen such launch girders when the construction picks up pace across the three corridors of the city where the elevated metro rail is being built. Similar launch girder at the top was used during the construction of the P.V. Expressway.“We are planning to begin piers work at S.P.Road once the sites are handed over to us,” he said. With pouring of concrete being done into a single shack of the pier module in one go, the curing process is much faster and barricading too will be restricted once the pier is ready, he informed.
Permissions are necessary for digging because of the presence of underground utilities such as power cables, telecom cables, water pipelines, sewer lines and so on, which have to be shifted, metro officials added.
