Teacher’s Day celebrated

Srikakulam: Three Mandal Education Officers, one Deputy District Educational Officer (all retired) and 45 teachers working in various schools in the district were felicitated on the occasion of Teacher’s Day at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday.

Collector V.N. Vishnu, who was the chief guest, expressed happiness at the results in various educational institutions, but pointed out that there was scope for further improvement. He also stressed the importance of creating social responsibility among students.

Co-curricular activities should not be neglected, he said. It was heartening that the number of un-enrolled and out-of-schoolchildren had come down from 1.97 lakhs in 1997 to just 2800 now.

Gali Srinivasa Naidu MLC (teachers) said that efforts would be made for getting funds for DEO’s office building in Srikakulam. Municipal chairperson M.V. Padmavathi expressed anguish at the deteriorating standards in municipal schools.

Proud moment

VIZIANAGARAM: The district administration felicitated 23 teachers in the Collector’s auditorium. Lok Sabha member Botsa Jhansi Lakshmi, Zilla Parishad Chairman B. Appala Naidu, Teacher MLC Gade Srinivasulu Naidu and MLA Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy presented the teachers a merit certificate, a shawl and a memento for their excellence in teaching and social activities.

District Educational Officer N. Franklin said that it was a proud moment as six of the 18 teachers selected in the State for National Awards were from the district.
