GUNTUR: The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums will protect the rare menhir at Karampudi village, Director P. Chenna Reddy has said.

Speaking to The Hindu on Wednesday, Dr. Reddy said that menhir with petroglyphs engraved on it was a striking remnant of pre-historic megalithic civilisation and the Department of Archaeology would take all efforts to preserve the monument.

The Department has already notified the monument as a protected site and would issue a GO shortly. A boundary wall would be constructed around the menhir and a pathway would be laid for the sake of tourists.
