HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Khan on Saturday initiated disciplinary action against two Sub-Inspectors P. Raju, and Bhaskar Rao, sending warning signals that involvement of police in matters of civil nature would not be tolerated.

While P. Raju, who earlier worked in Begumpet police station, was being placed under suspension, Bhaskara Rao was shifted from S.R. Nagar police station to City Security Wing. Raju registered a criminal case against a person Srinivas in 2007 without prima facie evidence subjecting the latter to harassment. An inquiry was ordered after Srinivas approached the higher-ups. The suspension was a consequence of the inquiry report. In the second case, Rao had tried to prevent a bailiff from executing a court order relating to eviction of a building. “The SI had no business to go to the place in the particular case. Even then, he should have helped the bailiff instead of preventing him from executing the order,” Mr. Khan explained. Taking the two cases seriously, the Commissioner decided to issue charge memos to the Inspectors of S.R. Nagar and Begumpet police stations, P. Krishna Murthy and A. Yadagiri respectively. The action was being taken against the Inspectors to control happenings in their respective jurisdictions and monitor actions of their subordinates.
