HYDERABAD: Walkout by the main Opposition TDP, CPI (M), CPI and the BJP from the Assembly on Wednesday night marked the passage of a Bill to constitute a commission for development of backward areas in the State.

Terming it as a politically motivated Bill to take the people of Telangana for a ride, the Opposition parties wondered what purpose the commission would serve when successive Congress Governments had done precious little for development of backward areas.

T. Devender Goud (TDP) said the Bill was nothing but a move by the Congress to counter the Telangana issue. Nomula Narasimhaiah (CPI-M) and Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI) blamed the Congress and the TDP for the backwardness of Telangana region. G. Kishan Reddy (BJP) wondered how the commission would bridge the disparities among the different regions in the State. Akbaruddin Owaisi (MIM) said the commission was being constituted too late and said it was only to counter the Telangana sentiment.

Finance Minister K. Rosaiah said the commission was being constituted to study and analyse the socio-economic disparities among the districts in the State. Not satisfied by the reply, the TDP, CPI (M), CPI and BJP members trooped out of the House.
